Request For Information Guide

What is an RFI?

A Request for Information (RFI) is a formal inquiry from a site selection consultant or company evaluating locations for expansion or relocation. These requests detail project needs such as workforce, infrastructure, available sites, and incentives. Timely and accurate responses position communities as strong contenders for economic development opportunities.

One example of a proactive, development-ready site in our region is Marshfield’s Yellowstone Industrial Park—a certified site offering over 100 acres of developable land, multimodal access, and strong utility infrastructure. Its shovel-ready status helps accelerate project timelines and increase site competitiveness.

The RFI Process at Centergy

How We Support Your Site Search

1. Centergy Receives RFI Request

Centergy is contacted directly or via the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) about a potential project and notifies regional partners.

2. Information Collection

Local communities gather and submit information, while Centergy assembles regional/state-level data as needed.

3. Packaging and Submission

Centergy compiles all responses into one package and submits it to the prospect or coordinating agency.

Preparing for Success

Proactive Communities Are Competitive Communities.

To respond quickly and effectively, communities should maintain up-to-date records of their assets and opportunities. Sharing this data with Centergy in advance allows us to respond efficiently while respecting confidentiality.

Content Guidelines

Key Content in a Typical RFI

To stand out, be ready to supply the following six categories of information:

  1. Available Properties
Include detailed site/building descriptions, pricing, maps/images, and proximity to infrastructure.

  1. Local Incentives
List only relevant county- or city-level incentives (state-level incentives are provided by Centergy). Include active programs with clear guidelines.

  1. Labor Force
Add insight beyond regional data: local commute times, education levels, and workforce availability.

  1. Transportation
Highlight highway, rail, and airport proximity, freight logistics, and road capacity.

  1. Utilities
Provide data on water, wastewater, electricity, broadband, and natural gas capacity and providers.

  1. Cover Letter
Introduce your community with a tailored message focused on the project’s interests (e.g., quality of life, speed to market, sector alignment).

Tips for a Strong Submission

  • Keep responses concise and tailored to the project’s needs.
  • Include high-quality visuals and maps to help site selectors visualize the opportunity.
  • Be realistic—avoid including incentives or sites that aren’t ready or shovel-ready.
  • Update your property listings on Locate In Wisconsin regularly.
